Unit Rescued Allied Employee During Critical Episode
Shaler Twp, PA (January 31, 2008): On June 3, 2007, Allison Park resident Shelly Schafer, a 43-year-old mother of two, collapsed from a ruptured brain aneurysm while grocery shopping. Shaler Emergency Medical Services (EMS) answered the 911 call.
Thanks to their quick response, Ms. Schafer is expected to make a full recovery. “I don’t remember too much from that day,” says Ms. Schafer. “My husband has told me that Shaler EMS wasted no time in getting me to the hospital. I realize how every second counts in these situations, and that’s why I’m so grateful to the unit.”
In recognition of their life-saving efforts, Allied Insurance Brokers, Inc. where Ms. Schafer is a Sr. Vice President, will present a Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company grant of $8,000 to Shaler EMS. Funds are earmarked for upgrading the organization’s cardiac monitors from monophasic to biphasic technology.

Ms. Schafer will join several of her Allied coworkers as well as Fireman’s Fund representatives for a special public event to present Shaler EMS personnel with the grant package.
